The location is nothing short of spectacular, which is probably why this supper club space atop a 19th Century apartment block has received so many architectural awards for its design. While so many restaurants in Istanbul come with a preordained skyline view, there is something quite remarkable about this penthouse-level glass eatery with outdoor terrace that's center stage for some of summer's hottest soirees and parties. Framed by neighborhood church steeples and long-time store fronts, guests make their way to the rooftop entryway and into the main dining room with its exposed rafters, butterfly ceiling and 25-foot walls of glass that epitomize sexy new Istanbul. At midnight the dining room and lounge explode as a full-on club with occasional live musical performances, international DJs and pop celebs.
The Food
Open for all-day dining, lunch and dinner offer essentially the same menu with smaller portions and prices. Appetizers consist of a full sushi menu of sashimi and cut rolls, market fresh falafal or asparagus salad and assortment of pizzettas topped with exotic fruits and meats. Main course is a symposium of slow cooking with crispy Dover Sole, roasted duck, glazed quail and lamb rack confit accompanied by spinach, potato and rice stuffing. Grill lovers discover a mixed fish or meat plate in addition to a small pizza and pasta menu with a spicy twist.
Last Word
There is no bad seat in the restaurant, except during summer months when there’s no better place to be than on the balcony within one of the cocoon-style booths near the lounge for prime people watching.
